Mobile search and mobile traffic is taking over that of desktop search and traffic. Roughly 50% of today’s traffic is coming from mobile. To address this continuing trend Google is putting mobile-friendliness as a major ranking factor for mobile search results.
Here is an article that talks about these changes for those that want to read: Google announced via its Webmaster Central Blog on February 26, 2015, that it would be expanding the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. Here is the important part:

This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” [/blockquote]
To give this update practical context, if your website is not mobile-friendly (Yours is not… that is why we are emailing you), after April 21, you will disappear from the radar for any Google searches performed on mobile devices.
